International Wine Report just released the tasting reports for both 2011 Brunello di Montalcino and 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, remarking that Il Poggione “made absolutely stunning wines which were among the very best in 2011.” Here are the reviews of the current releases of Brunello from Il Poggione:
96 pts – IL POGGIONE Brunello di Montalcino 2011
The 2011 Il Poggione is an absolutely striking Brunello. Elegant and classy with aromas of fresh red fruits, floral, minerals and touch of spice all coming together in the gorgeous wine. This displays remarkable overall balance, depth and focus with a beautiful silky texture and wonderful finesse as it leads up to the long, expansive finish. A simply incredible showing from Il Poggione in 2011. (Best 2018-2032)
97 IL POGGIONE Brunello di Montalcino, Riserva ‘Vigna Paganelli’ 2010
The 2010 Il Poggione ‘Vigna Paganelli’ Brunello Riserva is a striking wine, impressive for its elegance and refined character. As this slowly opens it begins to release alluring aromas of cherries and blackberries along with dried floral, minerals and leather all taking shape in the glass. This sophisticated Brunello displays remarkable overall structure and balance with fine silky tannins leading up to the long finish. A simply gorgeous, age worthy Brunello, which will demand at least a few years of cellaring before it will show its best. (Best 2020-2032)
